soloist” (Boston Globe) who plays “with lucid heat” (New York Times), violinist Sarah Silver has a multifaceted and international musical career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and teacher. After spending the past four seasons as Assistant Concertmaster of the San Antonio Symphony, she is currently the Acting Associate Concertmaster. Championing contemporary music, Ms. Silver is particularly passionate about sharing the works of living and recent composers. As part of the 2014 Tanglewood Music Center’s Festival of Contemporary Music, she became only the second violinist to perform Steven Mackey’s violin concerto, Beautiful Passing. After spending three summers as a fellow, where she won the Jules C. Reiner Violin Prize, Ms. Silver was invited back to be a member of the New Fromm Players, a distinguished chamber music ensemble devoted to performing contemporary music. Performances of Elliott Carter’s String Quartet No. 1 as well as the United States premiere of Epigrams, Carter’s last written work, prompted Musical America to feature her as the New Artist of the Month for September 2013. Residencies have included a teaching fellowship at Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, Colombia as well as two seasons in Hong Kong as an artist-in-residence for The Intimacy of Creativity: The Bright Sheng Partnership. Ms. Silver has also performed as a soloist with the San Antonio Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic, and Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra. Other music festivals she has performed at include Kneisel Hall, the New York String Orchestra Seminar, Spoleto Festival USA, and Aspen Music Festival. Originally from Pittsburgh, Ms. Silver received a Bachelor of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University, studying with Andrés Cárdenes, followed by a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory, studying with Malcolm Lowe. An avid teacher, she also pursued a minor in music education, earning K-12 certification as an undergraduate following student teaching placements in both general music and instrumental instruction. Since moving in 2010, she has made San Antonio her home, where she has become an integral part of the city’s cultural landscape, including serving with the San Antonio Symphony for over a decade. A passionate chamber musician, Marisa is the Executive Director and violist of Agarita, the innovative ensemble she co-founded to reimagine classical music through collaboration, accessibility, and adventurous programming. Known for her rich, powerful sound and her commitment to making music accessible to all, she has helped shape Agarita into a vital force in San Antonio’s arts community. Under her leadership, Agarita has been recognized with honors such as Best of the City by the San Antonio Current, the San Antonio Business Journal Impact Award for Cultural Vibrancy, and Luminaria’s Featured Artist. In 2024, Marisa was honored to join the prestigious Leadership San Antonio Class 49. The ensemble has also been featured internationally as Artist in Residence at the La Rioja Festival in Logroño, Spain, completed a residency at Carnegie Mellon University, and is currently recording an album with renowned guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas. Marisa earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Viola Performance from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her Master’s Degree in Viola Performance from Indiana University, Bloomington. With Agarita, he has shared the stage with internationally celebrated artists including the Imani Winds, guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas, and cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia, among others. The ensemble has also developed acclaimed multidisciplinary projects with chefs, poets, dancers, and visual artists, bringing music into dialogue with a wide array of art forms. Through Agarita Inspires, the group’s education initiative, Ignacio has helped provide free concerts and interactive programs to tens of thousands of students across San Antonio. Beyond Agarita, Ignacio’s career highlights include solo performances with the National Orchestra of El Salvador, a recital at their National Museum of Art, a tour of China with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, and multiple appearances at Carnegie Hall, including a solo performance during the Hispanic Society of America’s centennial celebration. His performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 3, conducted by Leon Fleisher with the Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra, was “the highlight to everyone’s ears, if the full-house of standing ovation were any indication” (ECM reviews). Anastasio was a concerto competition finalist at Cornell University, Stony Brook University, and The Juilliard School, where he won the Mieczyslaw Munz Scholarship. Outside of his performances in central Texas, his most recent performances include a residency at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu, China, and a national recital tour with organist Samuel Gaskin, featuring performances at both the 2020 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference and the 2020 American Guild of Organists Dallas Conference. Joshua holds degrees from the University of Oklahoma and Duquesne University, where he studied with internationally renowned tenor saxophonist James Houlik. As a movement artist based in San Antonio, TX, she performs, choreographs, educates, and advocates for all things dance. She holds a BFA in Dance Studies from Texas State University and an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University. While she values academia and the doors it has opened for her, she draws equal inspiration from her life experience that helps develop her creative processes and affective presence on stage and as an educator. Her affinity for new experiences has provided her with various opportunities. In addition to being a Wolf Trap teaching artist, she has had the privilege of working closely with Jennifer Archibald, Alonzo King, Michael Foley, Rennie Harris’s Puremovement, and Lula Washington, to name a few. Most recently, Tanesha’s work was featured in the documentary The Quilt: A Living History of African American Music, three national Dell commercials, and The Public Theatre’s production of Once on This Island: A musical. She then became a member of Dominic Walsh Dance Theater in Houston, TX where she performed works by Jiri Kylian and Matts Ek. While dancing with Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, Felicia performed the lead role of 'Juliet' in Walsh's production of "Romeo and Juliet.” Mrs. Guerra later joined Hubbard Street 2 where she was a part of many original creations and tours throughout the United States and Germany. During her time in Chicago, Felicia learned to dance on stilts with Kristina Isabelle Dance Company and traveled to Deventer, Netherlands to be featured in the Deventer Op Stelten Festival in 2014. Mrs. Guerra has guested with several companies including Les Grands Ballet Canadiens in Montreal and Owen/Cox Dance Group in Kansas City. In 2016 Felicia returned to her hometown of San Antonio where she continues to freelance, choreograph, and teach pilates. Though she was always prancing around home, she started more officially learning dance methods while in elementary school in the midwest. Dance was a major factor when deciding next steps after high school, and upon attending St. Olaf College, she participated in a variety of their dance movement and theory classes while also being a part of their Company Dance program. She collaborated in numerous works led by students, faculty, and Twin City based artists and pushed herself out of her comfort zone to create a few on her own as well. Through adult life, she has continued seeking out a dance community in any capacity feasible. Being apart of SummeRset Movement has been the biggest joy of living in San Antonio. Rhea began her performance career as a concert dancer earning professional accreditation through the Urban Bush Women, INSPIRIT, a dance company, NathanTrice Rituals, Dayton Contemporary Dance Second Company, Bermuda Dance Company, Hope Boykin Dance, and Eleone Dance. In 2006, Ms. Patterson made an unexpected transition into musical theater when cast in the 1st National Broadway tour of Sweet Charity, followed by the Broadway companies of Wicked, the revival of Guys and Dolls, and the original cast of Disney’s Aladdin. Rhea currently resides in San Antonio with her 2 children and works as a full-time private & group Pilates instructor. Since 2002, as the founding first violinist of the Parker Quartet, he has garnered wide recognition for his performances in such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Library of Congress, Musikverein, and Wigmore Hall. Additionally, recent solo engagements include appearances at National Sawdust in New York City, Seoul Arts Center, and Jordan Hall in Boston. Mr. Chong has received several awards and prizes such as the Cleveland Quartet Award and top prizes at the Concert Artists Guild Competition and the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition. In the recording realm, he can be heard on the ECM Records, Zig-Zag Territoires, Naxos, and Nimbus Records labels. A native of Houston, TX, Jessica began her musical studies on the violin at the age of two, then switched to the viola at the age of twelve because of her love of the deeper sonority. Mission + Bio An innovative chamber ensemble dedicated to producing bold, collaborative musical events, Agarita offers a new way to experience classical and contemporary music. Founded by Daniel Anastasio (piano), Marisa Bushman (viola), Ignacio Gallego (cello) and Sarah Silver Manzke (violin), Agarita nourishes their community through artistic collaborations, education, community engagement, and free, adventurous programming. With concise, eclectic performances that are “splendid – unified, spirited, [and] well prepared” (Greenberg, Incident Light), the young chamber group offers a new, open-armed experience for listeners. Rooted in San Antonio, Texas, Agarita works intimately with artists of various genres to weave cross-artistic narratives for each concert, all accessible and free of charge to the community, in a bi-lingual format. Every program is unique. One concert with award-winning chef Elizabeth Johnson paired musical selections with dishes for the audience. Another with acclaimed poet Naomi Shihab Nye interwove her poetry readings with musical works inspired by her poetry. Writers, photographers, dancers, sculptors, lighting artists, art museums, and even a glassblower– Agarita is unafraid to pursue collaborations that challenge the concert medium to craft innovative, inspiring musical experiences. In terms of collaboration with other musicians, Agarita has performed with internationally acclaimed artists, including guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas, cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia, the Grammy-winning Imani Winds, members of the Harlem, Parker, and Escher String Quartets, and many more. In its 8th year, Agarita continues to expand its scope, reach, and impact. Between large-scale community concerts, outdoor shows with its mobile concert hall, the Humble Hall, and its educational program Agarita Inspires!, Agarita gives 100+ concerts across the year, including 40 educational programs for more than 15,000 young students— all free of charge.
