Classical Music: Where are we now?
Join Daniel for the first of a brand new lecture series at the Loft.
The landscape of the classical music field in the U.S. has been changing gradually over the past few decades, and it can be difficult for musicians and musical institutions to acknowledge these changes. The popularity of classical music in education and popular media has faded from its hayday in the mid-20th century, and there is a larger gap than ever between the musical knowledge of conservatory-trained musicians and that of the average citizen. I will explain some of the reasons for this growing disconnect and shift of cultural priorities, demonstrate through musical examples of all kinds, and invite questions and conversation from the audience.
Tickets available 1 week prior.
