Gloria Sanchez Hart

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and based in San Antonio, Texas, Gloria Sanchez Hart is a master printmaker whose work explores the layered wounds and resilient spirit of cultural identity. Through a career spanning over five decades, Sanchez Hart has developed a body of work deeply rooted in her Mexican heritage and her immigrant experience, often addressing themes of loss, survival, and memory.

For Wounds of Identity, Sanchez Hart presents two monoprints from her series Canta y no Llores, meditations on collective traumas that transcend generations. 1848 revisits the sorrow of the Mexican-American War and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, an enduring wound in the Mexican consciousness. 2020 reflects the profound rupture of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, her linocut Food for the Soul celebrates ancestral nourishment — the handmade, soulful foods that sustain both body and spirit across borders.

Sanchez Hart’s work has been exhibited internationally, with pieces held in collections such as the China Printmaking Museum and the University Health System of San Antonio. She continues to engage the community as a mentor and advocate for immigrant artists.
