Jaime Amador, viola

Hailed by The Washington Post for his “sophisticated and precise playing,” Jaime Amador has distinguished himself among the latest generation of musicians. He was seven when he began studing the viola at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and later continued his training at The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music. As a chamber musician, Mr. Amador tours widely and has appeared in prestigious venues across the United States, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Kennedy Center, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Yomiuri Otemachi Hall, and the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden. He is also a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music in London and at the John J. Cali School of Music in Montclair State University, New Jersey, and frequently teaches master classes at institutions such as the New York Youth Symphony and Kaufman Music Center at Merkin Hall. He has collaborated in projects with distinguished musicians such as Chick Corea, Ida Kavafian, Cho-Liang Lin, John Patitucci, Anthony McGill, Mikhail Kopelman, Peter Wiley, Misha Dichter, David Schifrin, among others. Before joining Harlem Quartet and Trio Virado, Mr. Amador was a member of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, where he won First Prize in its Solo Competition for his interpretation of Béla Bartók’s Viola Concerto.
