Alston Cox
Alston Cox is a San Antonio-based artist working in oil painting, urban sketching, and plein air painting. Rooted in the tradition of realism, her work spans portraiture, landscape, still life, and architectural subjects, finding beauty and meaning in the people, places, and objects of everyday life.
Cox holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts with an emphasis in Photography and Film, and spent nearly a decade studying drawing and painting at the Southwest School of Art, now UTSA Southwest. She has deepened her practice through years of independent study with artists Linda Lang and Rainy Rodriguez, workshops with renowned painters Sherrie McGraw and Susan Lyons at Hindes Gallery in San Antonio, and ongoing mentorship with Karen McCauley and Janice Hindes.
Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions at San Antonio College and has been exhibited in local galleries and community spaces throughout San Antonio since 2006. In 2026, she was accepted into the 96th Annual Juried Exhibition at the San Antonio Art League and Museum, of which she has been a proud member since 2021. Cox also takes on commissions, painting portraits, homes, and pets for private clients. Find her work at www.alstoncox.com or on Instagram at @alstoncoxart.
