Diana Kersey

When Diana Kersey was growing up in Lubbock, her parents allowed her to dig a mud pit in their backyard. Thirteen inches down, she discovered clay, and she has been working with it ever since.

Kersey focuses solely on clay works, creating both small studio pieces and large public art installations. Her work is known for its strong, spontaneous style and colorful, translucent glazes.

Kersey has won several awards, including the Artisan Award from the Texas Society of Architects, the John Staub Award from the Texas Society of Classic Architecture and Art, and the Everyday Excellence Golden Trowel from the Texas Masonry Council. She's also received the Lynn Ford Craftsman Award from The Conservation Society of San Antonio and the Mary Jo Laughlin and Eula Whitehouse Memorial Award for Visual Arts from the Native Plant Society of Texas. In 2024, she was named Texas State Artist in 3D by the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Her public art can be seen in projects for the City of San Antonio, VIA Metropolitan Transit, the San Antonio River Authority, and the City of Harlingen. In 2021, she completed her largest work, "The Riparian Edge," for the Oxbow Building in San Antonio.

Kersey has an MFA in ceramics from Washington State University (1997) and a BFA in drawing from Texas Tech University (1994). She teaches as an Assistant Professor at Northwest Vista College and operates Kersey Ceramics LLC in San Antonio, Texas.
