Casey Galloway

Casey Galloway was born and raised in San Antonio. A life-long interest in textiles led her to the University of North Texas where she received a BFA in Fibers. In 2009, she began teaching weaving at the Southwest School of Art (now UTSA) and became the Fiber Department Coordinator in 2014. Galloway is dedicated to teaching weaving at all levels and dyeing techniques. Along with working in the studio with students, Galloway maintains an active home studio where she makes both conceptual and functional textiles. Her work is currently focused on the emotional and physical terrain of pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood. These hand‑dyed and handwoven textiles, created through a blend of painterly dye techniques and intuitive weaving on an 8‑shaft floor loom, mirror the necessity of relinquishing control as a parent. Inspiration is also drawn from the music of the Spectral Geezers, a collaboration between Galloways husband, Torin Metz, and friend, Justin Boyd. The ambient guitar and modular synthesizer drifting together shaped the atmosphere of her studio and the early aesthetics of the work. Galloway, Metz & Boyd's collaborative work was showcased at Flight Gallery in 2025 in the exhibition, Music for Ottis.
