Hannah Hurricane

Hannah Hurricane (b. 1988) creates vibrant paintings that explore themes of home, women, and nature through a lens of personal symbolism. Her work, which also includes printmaking and ceramics, is infused with a deep appreciation for unseen natural forces, reflecting her background in wildlife ecology and conservation. Angels, birds, and ladybugs recur throughout her colorful compositions, acting as personal emblems that convey a sense of wonder, resilience, and interconnectedness. Hurricane devoted to art education works with museums, community centers, schools, and universities believing that making, conservation, and teaching are all integral parts of an artist's journey.

Hurricane holds a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida and an MFA in Painting from Western Connecticut State University. She has been an artist in residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts with Joan Snyder (2017), the Vermont Studio Center (2018), and Cow House Studios (2024). Her work has been exhibited in numerous spaces, including Sala Diaz (San Antonio, TX), Blue Star Contemporary (San Antonio, TX), Deanna Evans Projects (NYC), The Oxbow Gallery (North Hampton, MA), and at Elms College (MA). She is a recipient of the 2019 MASS MoCA Matched SavingsGrant Award offered by Assets for Artists. Hurricane currently lives and works in San Antonio, TX, where she adjunct teaches at the University of Incarnate Word.
